La estigmatización como pueblo guerrillero, soportó este accionar violento, convirtiendo a sus pobladores en objetivos militares.La noche del 9 de enero de 1999, aproximadamente 150 paramilitares del Bloque Sur Putumayo, unidad adscrita al Bloque Central Bolvar BCB de las Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC), irrumpieron en la zona urbana de la Inspección de Polica El Tigre, en el Bajo Putumayo (Valle del Guamuéz), en donde asesinaron a 28 personas, quemaron casas, motocicletas y vehículos.La represión y violencia directa contra esta población no terminó con la masacre, sino que se intensificó durante el período 2001-2006, cuando este mismo bloque paramilitar estableció en la mayora de las zonas urbanas del Bajo Putumayo (Puerto Asís, Puerto Caicedo, Orito, La Hormiga, La Dorada) un control territorial permanente, ejerciendo un dominio social, económico y político en esta región.Así, la masacre y posterior ocupación paramilitar de la zona, generaron diversos daños y pérdidas que no sólo afectaron la economía de los habitantes del poblado, sino que modificaron sustancialmente la vida de campesinos, afrocolombianos e indígenas que habitan el sector. |
