Es un campo creciente y dinámico, que abarca la creación de contenido, plataformas de distribución y dispositivos tecnológicos. El sector de la industria de la información en 2017 representó alrededor de $ 1.7 trillones en los EE. UU. Y $ 6 trillones en todo el mundo, alrededor del 6% del producto interno bruto (PIB) mundial. Como porcentaje del "ingreso discrecional", el porcentaje del sector se acerca al 20%; y como parte del "tiempo discrecional" es un extraordinario 30%. El consumo de medios per cápita en los Estados Unidos es de 2100 horas anuales, lo que se traduce en 5,7 horas al día. Y no es solo la cantidad lo que cuenta.
