Summary, etc. "Este libro es producto de un análisis crítico de la espacialidad de Cartagena de Indias desde un método ecléctico, que anuda la Comunicación, pensada como ciencia unidisciplinaria, con el urbanismo crítico, específicamente con los conceptos del tercer espacio y las geografías postmodernas de Edward Soja; el materialismo histórico-geográfico (desarrollo geográfico desigual y justicia espacial) de David Harvey; y el análisis de los sistemas-mundo de Immanuel Wallerstein. Pretende describir la forma urbana que ha tomado Cartagena en su interrelación -económica, política, social y cultural- con el sistema mundial, específicamente en la primera década del siglo XXI, cuando se ha incorporado a una escala particular de la economía globalizada y del desarrollo geográfico desigual; para entonces valorar los efectos que esta interrelación ha tenido sobre los habitantes y su derecho a la ciudad: a habitarla, construirla y transformarla. Para ello limita el eclecticismo con un esquema narrativo-histórico, donde se entrelazan el pensamiento comunicacional con una forma mucho más compleja de leer la ciudad desde la crítica neomarxista. El libro es resultado de la tesis de maestra con el mismo nombre."
