Summary, etc. Por favor, hermano, dispáreme en la cabeza. Con esa súplica recibió el capitán Juan David Arias al soldado que, tras oír la explosión de la mina, había salido corriendo a rescatar a su comandante. El capitán Arias apenas tenía 21 años y haba ingresado al Ejército sin entender bien la guerra. Derribado en el piso con una pierna partida en dos, trató de cumplir lo que se había prometido a sí mismo si una mina lo afectaba seriamente: quitarse la vida. Pero no podía. No tenía ni las fuerzas ni las manos para llegar a su fusil. La historia del capitán Arias es tan dolorosa como común entre los militares víctimas de minas antipersonal, que ya suman más de seis mil según las estadísticas oficiales. Muchos de los que pierden algo con un artefacto de estos (un brazo, una pierna, su espíritu) se ven ante el dilema de acabar con su vida o seguir luchando. De enterrar el héroe que eran para su gente o reinventarse. Los desafíos de estos hombres son del tamaño de sus tragedias y, por eso, quién mejor para contar la guerra que ellos mismos,sus protagonistas: esos hombres que resuelven su destino entre la oscuridad, los animales, las balas y las minas.
