A partir del año 1993 con la ley 65 de 1993 se expidió el Código Penitenciario y Carcelario de Colombia, el cual dentro de sus variados objetivos se centra en el cumplimiento del principio de resocialización. En el artículo 10 de la mencionada ley se explican los métodos a emplear por parte del Estado."
