Summary, etc. Las citoquinas son glicoproteínas de bajo peso molecular, las cuales son producidas en el ser humano por distintos tipos celulares del sistema inmune como células NK, macrófagos, linfocitos (L), principalmente Linfocitos T (LT) en respuesta a una activación celular. Bajo este nombre se agrupan las proteínas denominadas linfocinas, monocinas, interleucinas (IL) e interferones (IFN). La función fundamental de las citoquinas es la regulación de la respuesta inmune y de la respuesta inflamatoria (1). Participan tanto en la respuesta innata como en la adaptativa uniéndose a respectivos receptores solubles de las membranas celulares ya sea en respuesta a infecciones, procesos inflamatorios o tumorales, actuando además como factores inflamatorios o antiinflamatorios, de cuyo equilibrio depende en parte la evolución de las enfermedades.
