Summary, etc. Todavía en la época en la que se publica la novela de Manuel Zapata Olivella, La calle 10 (1960), y mas aun por los años en que transcurre el relato (1943 a 1948), la calle 10 de Bogotá tenía una connotación de zona de tolerancia, en la convivían las trabajadoras del sexo, el palacio de San Carlos, la iglesia de San Ignacio, el capitolio nacional. Principia la novela con el asesinato del periodista e instructor de boxeo de la policía, Mamatoco, que Zapata Olivella, con las debidas licencias literarias, conecta con el de Jorge Eliécer Gaitán. Y aquí aparecen en escena varios personajes que frecuentan la calle 10, como el soldado Renjifo, desertor; el poeta Tamayo, "La pecosa", "La capitana", arrastrados por la vorágine de hechos tremendos que ellos no propiciaron.
