Summary, etc. Las citoquinas son glicoprotenas de bajo peso molecular, las cuales son producidas por distintos tipos celulares del sistema inmune como células NK, macrófagos, linfocitos (L), principalmente LT en respuesta a una activación celular. Bajo este nombre se agrupan las proteínas denominadas linfocinas, monocinas, interleucinas (IL) e interferones (IFN). La función fundamental de las citoquinas es la regulación de la respuesta inmune y de la respuesta inflamatoria (1). Participan tanto en la respuesta innata como en la adaptativa uniéndose a respectivos receptores solubles de las membranas celulares ya sea en respuesta a infecciones, procesos inflamatorios o tumorales, actuando además como factores inflamatorios o antiinflamatorios, de cuyo equilibrio depende en parte la evolución de las enfermedades.
